PLATEFIT is one of the new kids on the block when it comes to the LA fitness scene, but this modality is growing as Platefit has opened their second studio in Brentwood (the first is in West Hollywood). This intimate fitness studio capitalizes on an activity that has been so far underestimated; the notable Power Plate machine, which utilizes whole body vibration technology.
Rachael Blumberg, the studio’s co-owner, has designed a series of 27-minute workouts utilizing the vibration sensation of the medical device to reportedly burn up to 800 calories a session. While the jury is still out when it comes to definitive findings, some of the preliminary research suggests that the vibration technology can reduce bone loss, speed up recovery times, and may even reduce cellulite. Blumberg first experienced the benefits of these machines when she was a Division 1 college water polo player. She was hooked, leading to her goal of introducing the benefits of these machines and this style of workout to the masses.
“Many who come into PLATEFIT say they’ve seen the machine but never knew how to use it until now,” says Blumberg. While the vibrations of the Power Plate can take some getting used to, classes are warm and inviting and will have you dripping sweat in the first 10 minutes.
The yoga class on the Power Plate is a great pick for any avid yogi who wants to shake up their practice—literally—but you can also select from HIIT-FIT, DanceFIT, BootcampFIT, CelluliteFIT/RecoveryFIT, and more. After 10 years training in West Hollywood and successful WeHo studio, Blumberg has opened PLATEFIT across from the Brentwood Country Mart in the Brentwood Town Center.
