ROAM—an acronym for Rivers, Oceans, and Mountains—is a yoga and meditation studio in the Silverlake/Echo Park conclave of Virgil Village opened by Chad Dennis and Jennifer Perry. Chad, once Maroon 5’s tour yoga instructor, is a cerebral anatomist with a penchant for intelligent practice and his meticulous specificity in working with the biomechanics of the body through movement. Jennifer, former muse for choreographer Mia Michaels and dancer for Celine Dion’s Vegas residency, is the intuitive creative with an awareness of bodies in motion and space. This husband and wife team personifies the marriage between art and science; they have built a brick and mortar manifestation of the unity between the celestial and the cerebral.
The studio’s location reflects their decision to offer yoga in the neighborhood where you can practice next to your grocer and your immediate community. Chad and Jennifer wanted to offer the intimacy of the small mom and pop studios where the duo practiced 30 years ago.
Each teacher at ROAM is handpicked by Chad and Jennifer; varied lineages pepper the roster, but their outlook on the pedagogy is the same. “Thoughtful practice, intelligent progression, and creative sequencing” is the bedrock of ROAM, according to Chad.
Come for a monthly guitar sound bath with Joel Shearer of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros or for a quiet practice. ROAM is a living breathing manifesto of two longtime yogis’ desire to live their version of Michael A. Singer’s The Surrender Experiment. For them, this was the universe saying, “this is it” and once they surrendered, ROAM was built in a metaphorical day.
